Reminder: Sentrilock® Retiring the Sentricard January 1, 2022

As announced on October 13th in eMemo #4138, SentriLock will retire the SentriCard on January 1, 2022, after which members will need to use the SentriKey® Real Estate app to open SentriLock boxes.

The SentriKey® Real Estate app has several advantages over SentriCard in terms of improving the user experience including:

  • Immediate notifications when someone enters and leaves a property – no card related delays.
  • No need for card renewals – ever! The ability to use Touch ID and Facial Recognition streamlines the access process.
  • More features: Agent Safety, report key missing, and listing agent information.

What does this mean for you?

Effective January 1, 2022, SentriLock will no longer support the use of a SentriCard as a means to access lockboxes for showings. This means:

  • All lockbox accesses for showings will happen via the SentriKey Real Estate app.
  • The only use of SentriCard will be for owners of a non-Bluetooth® REALTOR® Lockbox to enable them to take ownership of a lockbox, as well as assign a lockbox to a property – with limited settings available.
  • Despite the retirement of the SentriCard, Non Bluetooth® lockboxes can still be accessed through app-generated codes entered via the lockbox keypad.


To maintain uninterrupted operation, the SentriKey app should be accessed at least once every 24 hours to keep your credentials updated. To do so, simply open the app while in Wi-Fi/data range. This will ensure that the app is authenticated and ready to use when you need it.

For Bluetooth lockboxes, accessing the app every day while in Wi-Fi/data range allows SentriKey to open Bluetooth lockboxes even while out of cell coverage. For non-Bluetooth lockboxes, accessing the app every day will generate the code. But if you are going to a showing in remote area, then listing agents need to schedule an appointment while in Wi-Fi/data range using the My Schedule function in the SentriKey app. This way, even if the app detects low or no cellular coverage in remote areas, a mobile code will still be generated.
