While the new members of FVREB’s Stakeholder and Government Relations Committee (SGRC) for the 2026–2027 term are in the process of being confirmed, the GR team has already been advancing several important advocacy initiatives on behalf of members.
In late April, FVREB supported BCREA’s advocacy efforts regarding the proposed Heritage Conservation Act (HCA), raising concerns about potential unintended consequences for REALTORS®. FVREB emphasized that REALTORS® are licensed to facilitate real estate transactions — not interpret archaeological registries or advise on heritage-related legal risks — and will continue working with BCREA on this issue.
On May 8, FVREB partnered with the Delta Chamber of Commerce to host a housing roundtable with developers, City of Delta staff, and industry stakeholders, including prefab builder Intelligent City. Discussions focused on housing challenges such as permitting delays, regulatory burdens, and improving collaboration between developers and municipal planning teams. FVREB is now compiling feedback to share with Delta Mayor and Council as part of ongoing housing advocacy efforts.
At the same time, FVREB’s GR team is collaborating with BCREA and the Greater Vancouver REALTORS® government relations teams on a new thought leadership white paper focused on transit infrastructure in the Lower Mainland. The report will explore long-term transit needs in the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver, incorporating perspectives from planners, developers, and TransLink.
The Committee will also begin onboarding new SGRC members and preparing advocacy strategies ahead of the upcoming municipal elections this October.
If you have any questions pertaining to the work of the SGRC, please feel free to contact Shafiq, our Stakeholder & GR Affairs Facilitator.
