FVREB helps to celebrate the efforts of the Surrey RCMP

The Surrey Board of Trade held their 23rd annual Surrey Police Officer of the Year Awards on October 10 at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel. The Surrey RCMP was well-represented with many members dressed in their red serge uniforms. The 400-person gathering also included representatives from the Surrey RCMP’s auxiliary, civilian employee and volunteer groups. We sponsored one of the awards on behalf of Realty Watch and as a member of the Surrey business community.

President Darin Germyn and Vice-President Larry Anderson were in attendance as representatives of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board and helped to recognize and celebrate the efforts, successes and work ethic of the Surrey RCMP.

Darin says, “It was awesome to see the incredible work of the Surrey RCMP and their great volunteers who protect our community. The initiatives they have going are remarkable and they look at supporting their initiatives and protecting the city in many different ways.”

Darin presented the prestigious Surrey Police Officer of the Year Award (nominated by the community) to Constable Richard Wright. Constable Wright represents the RCMP at numerous community events including the Surrey RCMP Basketball Classic, Pride Flag Raising at Surrey Detachment, Hands Across the Border, Cloverdale Rodeo, Surrey Board of Trade Top 25 Under 25, Surrey Steps Up, and various Safe Schools events.

He developed a community engagement event for Fraser Valley Heritage Rail that included a First Responders’ Day. Corporal Wright’s singing talents have been on display with his singing of “God Save the Queen” at the E-Division Changing of the Commanding Officer ceremony, and in a viral video of him singing a duet from the movie Frozen at the Cloverdale Kids Expo.

Constable Wright has become an informal mentor to a Surrey youth. He spent a considerable amount of time providing advice to Brahmroop Sandhu, who went on to win the Surrey Board of Trade’s Top 25 under 25 Award in 2019 for his volunteerism and community engagement. He now works for the Canadian Border Services Agency. Brahmroop says Constable Wright’s mentorship changed his life forever.

In all, eight winners were recognized at the annual Awards. For the full list of winners, click here.
