At the CREA AGM on Monday, April 16, the motion to amend CREA’s bylaws and rules to allow an individual real estate board the option to belong to CREA directly, without having to also be a member of their provincial association, has passed.
The vote followed several hours of intense discussion and debate, including a motion to postpone and numerous motions to amend, which although supported by the FVREB, did not pass.
Ultimately, the FVREB voted to support the original motion. We did this to ensure there is a clear and orderly process for boards to follow in the unlikely event that they choose to pursue direct membership with CREA.
During discussions, the five boards bringing forward this motion indicated they have no plans to leave their provincial associations, and that by approving the motion they are staying by choice rather than because it is a requirement.
Now that this matter has been decided, we expect to get back to work and focus our attention on matters of real estate practice and professionalism, improved collaboration between organizations and providing value to members.
We greatly appreciate the members’ input we received leading up to this vote. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me directly or through communications@fvreb.bc.ca.
