Today’s eMemo contains the following updates on the BC Professional Development Program (PDP):
- 2020 Professional Development Program requirements
- New discounts on PDP-accredited courses
2020 Professional Development Program (PDP) requirements
Under the updated PDP program launched in 2020, members are required to complete 18 professional development hours in their two-year licensing cycle instead of the previous 18 PDP credits. The 18 hours may consist of:
- 12 accredited professional development hours, and
- 6 self-directed or accredited professional development hours.
Note: A maximum of six self-directed hours can be applied to meet PDP requirements. That means if you have accumulated 18 self-directed hours, you would still need to complete 12 additional accredited professional development hours.
Accredited versus self-directed learning:
Accredited learning is accredited by BCREA or boards and contributes to the fundamental skills, experience and knowledge required of Realtors throughout BC. BCREA maintains a list of current and past accredited learning opportunities, including the Writing Enforceable Contracts, Multiple Offers and Trends and Issues in Real Estate courses among many others.
Self-directed learning is not accredited by BCREA or boards but enhances your professional practice. This new category of professional development allows you to be recognized for learning that meets your individual needs and includes formal or informal learning opportunities, such as conferences, webinars, workshops, seminars and online learning. These opportunities must be verifiable and auditable – meaning you need to be able to show how they provide value to your clients and you must be able to provide proof of completion. For more information on self-directed learning, visit BCREA’s PDP transition website.
New discounts on PDP-accredited courses
BCREA is encouraging BC Realtors to take time during the COVID-19 pandemic to upgrade their professional knowledge and skills.
During the months of May, June and July, all of BCREA’s online PDP courses are available to you at a rate that is discounted by 25 per cent. For example, the new “Standard Form Essentials: The Property Disclosure Statement” course released with the revised Property Disclosure Statement costs $60 (a savings of $20 until July 31, 2020).
Members registering for a PDP-accredited course hosted by the Fraser Valley Board in May, June or July will receive a $25 discount. This discount is being subsidized by BCREA and will be automatically applied when you sign up via the TLC Calendar.
