It’s hard to express appreciation for nearly 35 years of dedication, professionalism and an unflagging commitment to Fraser Valley members, but we believe you are more than up for the challenge.
Members are invited to a reception in honour of Rick Wood’s retirement, so if you’d like to wish him well, please join us on Wednesday, March 6 in the Board’s Lower Lobby between 3 pm and 5 pm. Even if you can only pop-in for a quick hand shake or hug, no one would appreciate it more than Rick.
At the end of 2018, Rick, our Director of Operations, stepped happily into the next phase of life, which for him happens to be enjoying more golf, motorcycle adventures and hopefully, lots of rest and relaxation on Vancouver Island.
If you know Rick – and literally, hundreds and hundreds of our members and past members do – they will tell you, a nicer man in organized real estate you will never meet. If you don’t know Rick, he has been a rock for this board through good times and not so good times and always approached every issue and decision with calm deliberation, asking, what’s best for our members? How do we nurture their success?
Rick started his career with the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board in 1984 as Assistant Executive Officer, then as Director of Operations after a title change in 2010. In 2018, Rick accepted the Interim CEO position and despite plans to retire by the summer, he held off to ensure a smooth transition to our new CEO. So, by December 31, 2018, he was ready to ride off into the sunset.
Over the years, Rick has seen the evolution of our Board and the real estate industry. Catalogues? They lined his office shelves. Lockboxes? He’s tested them all. Finances? He’s coached at least 30+ Vice-Presidents and President-Elects. Oversee the Board’s dirt bike marathons to raise funds for charity? He’s done that too, back in the day, before he graduated to Harleys.
We are enticing Rick back ‘home’ to the Board for this well-deserved retirement celebration with members, staff and long-time colleagues. For many members, brokers and staff, Rick has been more than just a leader; he’s also been a mentor and friend.
Please RSVP to Darcie by no later than end of day, Friday, March 1. Don’t miss it – we can pretty much guarantee a lot of laughs, the best real estate stories and many watery eyes. Good on you Rick, enjoy.
