Nominations are now open for the John Armeneau Professional Award, one of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board’s most meaningful honours. The award recognizes REALTORS® who demonstrate exceptional professionalism, leadership, and community commitment. It celebrates those whose work reflects the values John Armeneau embodied: strong ethics, generosity, mentorship, and a sincere desire to strengthen the profession and our communities.
As part of this year’s nomination period, we are spotlighting past recipients whose contributions continue to inspire others. One such recipient is David Herman.
David describes receiving the award as something that still humbles him. “Receiving the award continues to provide me with resolve and inspiration to do and be better,” he says. “It means more to me than any sales award because it challenges me to achieve more as a person, husband, father, and grandfather. It continues to be a compass as a REALTOR®.”
Since receiving the award, David has continued to give back. “I continue to try to find ways that I can help with my skill sets and leadership,” he says. His dedication has led him to serve on school boards and in leadership roles with BCREA and CREA. He now chairs the Fraser Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation, which he calls “an incredible honour,” made meaningful by the “capable, kind, and generous” volunteers and staff he serves alongside.
When asked what members should consider when nominating a colleague, David highlights the generosity within the profession. “REALTORS® are amongst the most giving professionals I know,” he says. He encourages members to look for those who demonstrate passion for real estate, dedication to service, and empathy for others.
David believes the award reflects the same qualities that defined John himself, including integrity, strong moral judgment, kindness, and a willingness to mentor. Even after 45 years in real estate, he says that “trust, loyalty, solid work ethic, and integrity are as important today as they were when I started.”
