Ensuring the public has confidence when buying or selling a home is essential to the health of BC’s real estate market. To support this goal, the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) has released a new discussion paper, Strengthening Confidence in Real Estate Services, and is seeking feedback from industry members, including Fraser Valley REALTORS®.
The paper outlines potential changes aimed at improving transparency, fairness, and professionalism across the sector. These early-stage ideas build on findings from BCFSA’s 2022 consumer protection report and explore possible amendments to the Real Estate Services Act Rules.
Seeking feedback
BCFSA is inviting feedback from licensees, the public, and other stakeholders. Input gathered during the consultation will help shape decisions on whether new consumer protection measures should move forward.
Industry members are encouraged to review the discussion paper and submit comments through BCFSA’s online consultation form before Saturday, January 31, 2026. After the feedback period closes, BCFSA will publish a summary report and determine which options should proceed to further consultation.
BCREA Survey
To help ensure the profession’s perspectives are clearly represented, BCREA is collecting input from REALTORS® across the province through a brief survey. The feedback gathered will inform BCREA’s advocacy efforts as BCFSA considers potential changes.
The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and closes at noon on Friday, January 16, 2026. Responses will remain anonymous, with only aggregated results included in BCREA’s submission to BCFSA.
