Talk about long distance education!

How far would you travel to enhance your real estate knowledge? How about 4,300 kilometres? Board member, Diana Cooper (pictured above with Larry Anderson, Chair of our Brokers Council) flew across the country to come here to attend CREA’s first-ever CRB designation courses held in our auditorium on October 18 and 19. In fact, Diana, a member with HomeLife Benchmark Titus Realty in Surrey, travelled further than the course instructor who had a comparatively short jaunt from Edmonton.

Diana is a dual member of both our board and TREB (the Toronto Real Estate Board) and divides her time working as a REALTOR® in both Ontario and BC. Her permanent residence is in Caledon, near Brampton, and when she works here she stays with her daughter. It just so happens that she’s working this fall in Ontario, but really wanted to take advantage of the advanced professional training contained in the Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager courses. “I’m seriously considering taking the next step to becoming a managing broker and when I saw this education opportunity available at FVREB, it was an easy decision to book the flight. Well, two flights if you include coming back in November!”

On behalf of CREA, FVREB is the first board in Canada to host four, full-day CRB courses – two more are coming up November 15 and 16. Our board successfully received PDP accreditation for the courses from BCREA – 6 Category B credits each and we were able to secure a special introductory rate per course for being CREA’s inaugural launch of the program nationally.

Not surprisingly, Fraser Valley brokers and members jumped at the chance to receive specialized training. Larry Anderson, who has served on our Brokers Council for seven years and chaired it for four, was one of the first to register. “Clearly, it’s awesome when you’ve got a member like Diana going out of her way – literally – to come and take these courses, but it’s not surprising. Our brokers have been requesting specialized training for years, but they also know that it’s not easy to find high caliber courses for professionals who have been in the industry for 10, 20 or even 30 years.

“To have this opportunity at FVREB to be one of CREA’s first CRB graduates is exciting.”

Each course has a seating capacity of 40. FVREB is over-booked for the first three courses and only the final course on November 16 has a few seats left.  For more info or to register, head to CREA’s Training Hub and click Course Catalog.

CREA attained licensing rights to offer the program here in Canada and announced it at their AGM this year.  The CRB is one of the oldest professional designations in the US. The curriculum is specific to brokerage owners and managers and real estate team leaders.  The Real Estate Business Institute (REBI), an affiliate of the National Association of REALTORS®, has been offering CRB courses since 1968. REBI’s courses are available live in class, via virtual classroom or online/self-paced.

Currently in Canada, there are only 24 REALTORS® who have the CRB designation. With FVREB’s successful launch of the program, that number will more than double.  Way to go FVREB brokers and members!
