Everything you need to know about Rules of Cooperation changes

At the beginning of October the Board announced that our shared Rules of Cooperation would receive an update with changes coming into effect on November 1st.

As you know, the Rules of Cooperation are established guidelines we share with the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver and the the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board to help members between the three regions work better together. Every few years the Boards take a look at the Rules to find ways that they could be enhanced, corrected, or expanded to provide greater clarity and relevance.

With all of the ‘rules talk’ taking place this year at every level, it’s easy to think that these seem less essential than, say, the implementation of new rules from Council. But the Rules of Cooperation are critical for any REALTOR® in the Lower Mainland, providing direction in every aspect of our MLS®: listings, offers, sales, professional conduct, commission, advertising, lockboxes and more.

To help you get up to speed on the revised Rules, we’ve put together several resources that each provide greater understanding to what the changes are, why they were made, and how it impacts you.

  1. The updated Rules of Cooperation
  2. The updated Rules of Cooperation with notes: This version of the Rules has the main changes highlighted and explained to provide additional context.
  3. Interactive Rules of Cooperation: To avoid requiring members to scroll through the entire RoC document, we have created an interactive and easy-to-navigate page on REALTOR Link® that has each section of the Rules organized and separated by section and topic.
  4. What’s Changing: A side-by-side comparison of prior Rules and updated Rules in the latest version.
  5. The updated Direction Regarding Presentation of Offers form: This can also be found on CREA WEBForms®

You can find those resources here.

And for further support in regards to the changes, you can contact Paul Cowhig in our Professional Standards department if you have questions not answered by the resources above.
