Professionalism in Action
by Paul Cowhig, Advisor, Professional Standards
Managing a professional Instagram feed can be a daunting task, especially if you’re not sure where to begin.
Like any other aspect of your marketing and branding, you need an objective – and a plan to achieve that objective.
Know why you’re using Instagram
- You can create a network of peers in the real estate industry
- Keeps you up to date on latest trend and ideas in the industry
- Announce your accomplishments
- Present yourself as a respectful, thought leader
- Share knowledge that enhances the profession
- Keep your clients up to date on the market
Establish your presence
- Like: give positive feedback
- Follow: when someone follows you, follow them in return – this makes connections
- Comment: write a response to someone’s post, start a productive conversation
- Post: share an image of your recent accomplishment
- Hashtag: indexes your posts making them searchable by individual #Hashtags
Keep it professional
- Be respectful: Always
- Make good choices with your images
- Be focused and productive with your comments
- Think twice: Post once

Social Media Guidelines
The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board has prepared Social Media Guidelines to help you consider what is required and expected when using social media — you can find them on REALTOR Link® under the Professionalism tab.
Knowing the rules of the game will help you win in the end. Being sure your practice follows the rules and reflects high standards, is how you demonstrate professionalism.
