Updated PDP Requirements Take Effect January 1, 2026

With the new year approaching, REALTORS® are encouraged to plan ahead as updated PDP requirements come into effect, increasing the number of professional development hours required per licensing cycle.

Beginning Thursday, January 1, 2026, REALTORS® across BC will need to complete 21 PDP hours per licensing cycle, an increase from the current 18 hours.

This requirement reinforces a continued commitment to professional growth in a real estate environment that is becoming more complex, influenced by regulatory changes, advancing technology, and heightened public expectations. The revised framework is designed to help REALTORS® stay current, confident, and well-equipped, while supporting professionalism and strengthening public trust in the profession.

To hear a REALTOR® perspective on why this change matters, we encourage you to watch a short video from FVREB Associate Broker Josh Bath, who shares his thoughts on the value of increased education requirements and the role they play in raising industry standards.

Members whose licence expires on or after January 1, 2026, will be required to meet the new 21-hour requirement. Any PDP hours earned but not recorded prior to July 1, 2025, may still be applied toward the new total by submitting the appropriate certificate to the Education Department.

BCREA has also developed a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) resource, which will be updated regularly. For the most current information, members are encouraged to bookmark the Updated PDP Framework Resources page.
