As rental housing becomes increasingly out of reach for many British Columbians, the need for bold, coordinated action has never been more urgent. A growing population, limited housing supply, and a patchwork of inconsistent municipal processes have created a system where building new homes, especially rentals, is too often delayed, unpredictable, and costly.
Co-authored by FVREB CEO, Baldev Gill, and Chair, Tore Jacobsen, this Daily Hive op-ed makes the case for a “new partnership between the provincial and municipal governments and the development sector — one that aligns incentives, removes red tape, and creates the conditions for builders to do what they do best: build. With predictable policies, access to financing, and a more reasonable approach to rent regulation, the private sector can be a powerful force in solving BC’s housing crisis, especially when it comes to rentals.”
