Short-Term Rentals in Effect as of May 1

All six municipalities in the Fraser Valley Board region fall under the province’s Short-Term Rental Accommodations Act, which came into effect on May 1, 2024.

The new provincial rules limit short-term rentals to a homeowner’s principal residence plus one secondary suite or accessory unit.

Members should advise clients looking to purchase short-term accommodations to be aware that a number of laws have been recently amended to address the housing shortage in BC. These laws include local bylaws, as well as provincial and federal laws which may affect their intended and future uses.
