New Real Estate Council of BC course required for all licensees

New “Ethics for the Real Estate Professional” course required for license renewal under RECBC’s mandatory Continuing Education (CE)

All licensed real estate professionals in BC are now required to complete the Real Estate Council of BC’s (RECBC) new course, “Ethics for the Real Estate Professional” within their two-year licensing cycle, under RECBC’s CE.

The course is required if you are a representative, associate broker or managing broker, or if you provide trading, rental property management or strata management services to clients.

The course focusses on ethical decision making in the context of the real estate profession. Increase your ability to fulfill your role as a trusted advisor to your clients and other professionals by achieving a greater awareness of the ethical implications of the decisions you make in your day-to-day business and in more challenging situations where ethical concerns arise.

Length of the course:

The online component of the course can be completed at your own pace. RECBC estimates the course will require five to seven hours to complete. The self-paced online component must be completed before the virtual classroom component begins. You will have two weeks from the start date you select to complete the course.

When to take the course:

RECBC is encouraging you to take the course as soon as possible within your two-year licensing cycle. Completion is required in order to renew your license beginning on October 1, 2020.

Note: You must complete all course modules and obtain a passing grade of at least 70 per cent in the final assessment. Once you have passed the final assessment, you will receive a course completion letter.

Cost:

The course fee is $175.

How to register:

Registration is through the UBC Sauder School of Business website. You will need your license number and UBC Real Estate Division student ID number (if you have one) ready when you sign up. Find your license number here.

Once your registration has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email from the UBC Sauder School of Business with details on how to access the online course.

Reminder about your CE and PDP requirements

RECBC mandatory Continuing Education (CE) requirements:

3. Anti-Money Laundering in Real Estate ($50 until Jun. 30 and $100 Jul. 1 onward)
Oct. 1, 2020 to Mar. 31, 20221. Legal Update ($275)
2. Anti-Money Laundering in Real Estate ($50 until Jun. 30 and $100 Jul. 1 onward)
3. Ethics for the Real Estate Professional ($175)

Provincial Board Professional Development Program (PDP) requirements:

Members are required to complete 18 professional development hours in their two-year licensing cycle.

Twelve of these hours will be through Accredited professional development, with the remaining six made up of Self-Directed or Accredited professional development.

The Board offers training which is both Accredited and Self-Directed. Remember to check the category to ensure the hours will be recognized towards your compliance.
