Our annual Member Breakfast Meetings are always great opportunities for members to get updates from the Board about strategic initiatives, upcoming By-law resolutions, and to network with colleagues.
This year, attendees took our new remote voting app for a test drive. This is the app that will be available for the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to enable members to fully participate in the meeting if they want to tune in remotely, including voting on resolutions and elections.
At the Breakfast Meetings we tried out the new voting app by asking members in attendance two questions; the results from all four meetings are tallied for you below.
Question one asked: Would you support the introduction of mandatory professionalism courses and testing as a condition of membership in the FVREB?
Of the 268 votes, 89.9% said they would support this proposal.
Question two asked: Do you think that a special resolution proposing mandatory professionalism courses and testing would receive 75% approval at an FVREB Annual General Meeting?
Of the 287 votes, 59.3% said they believe it would get 75% approval
These results reflect the challenge facing our Board. Members are clear about what improvements they’d like to see, but acknowledge the challenges getting these kinds of changes approved, given our current requirement to obtain 75% approval for special resolutions. This is why the Board will be asking members to vote to change the approval threshold to 66.7% at the upcoming AGM.
