Support for Fort McMurray evacuees

On behalf of the REALTORS® of the Fraser Valley, the FVREB Board of Directors recently approved a $2,000 donation for the Fort McMurray evacuees.

There’s still a need for help and supplies. Here’s how you can join in helping the people of Fort Mac:

The Canadian REALTORS Care® Foundation is accepting donations on their website here. Donations will provide relief for those affected in the form of emergency food, clothing, shelter, personal services and other necessities to help assist with recovery and resiliency. After only a week and a half, REALTORS® have collectively raised over $186,000. Our American friends at the National Association of REALTORS® have committed to donating $250,000 to help Fort McMurray.

The Canadian Red Cross is taking donations from individuals and organizations here, or Canadians who text REDCROSS to 30333 will automatically make a $5 contribution, which will be added to their mobile phone bill. You can call the Red Cross at 1-888-350-6070 for family reunification.

Edmonton’s Food Bank is providing food resources to evacuees. Donations of food may be left at any major grocery store or fire hall. Monetary donations to the Fort McMurray Dire Evacuee support can be made online here.

An open-source Facebook page has been set up to help evacuees with information and resources. People have been using the page to assist evacuees with any items and shelter they might be able to offer.
