How to join FVREB courses delivered via Zoom Meeting

With the emphasis on physical distancing due to COVID-19, FVREB courses are now being presented to members via Zoom meetings. Given recent security concerns related to Zoom Meetings, the service provider has made some changes, including enhanced password protection.

Zoom Meetings enable you to interact, learn remotely, and help to keep everyone safe. We recommend that you have access to a desktop or laptop computer to ensure a smooth learning experience. It is also a requirement to have access to a headset, microphone, audio and video when joining these learning sessions.

If you are registered for a course you will receive a Zoom meeting email invite from our Education Team. When you receive this email, please follow the instructions below.

1. Open your email invite. It will have similar wording to what appears below:

2. Please click on “Click here to Join.” This will open a new browser window for you.

3. Please select Open Zoom.

4. The next screen will show you an option to Select Computer Audio. If you are on your PC/Laptop and have your headset and microphone connected, please select this option. You can choose to Test Speaker and Microphone during this step. If your volume is turned too low or you have your audio disabled, you will not be able to hear a sound. Please fix this setting on your computer before joining. This is usually located on the bottom right-hand side as a megaphone icon on a Windows device.

5. Use the “Phone Call” option if you do not have a microphone. Dial in using one of the numbers listed in the meeting invite and use the computer screen to watch at the same time.

Zoom Meetings and Your Privacy

FVREB has a number of security measures in place for Zoom meetings and will be monitoring additional measures moving forward. Please note:

  • FVREB does not record any of our Zoom meetings.
  • Webcams are optional.
  • Microphones are optional. Feel free to use the Chat Dialogue Box for your comments if you would rather stay muted.
  • You do not have to use your full name in the Participant’s Account. We will ask you to type your FIRST and LAST name into the Chat Box for sign-in and sign-out.
  • Unique meeting IDs are used and Passwords are required.
  • You will be invited into a “Waiting Room” and then admitted into the meeting by the Host or Co-host.
  • Some courses will be “Locked Down” following the late arrival period. No-one else will be authorized to join the meeting.
