The Abbotsford Police Foundation (APF) held their 4th annual breakfast fundraising event “Breakfast with the Chief – Crime is Toast” on Wednesday, October 24 at the Tradex in Abbotsford. The event raises funds to support the Abbotsford Police Department’s (Abby PD) community programs, including the purchase of equipment to aid the Abby PD’s special initiatives. This year for the first time, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board was there to sponsor the event on behalf of our Realty Watch program and help further local policing efforts.
“This was a very worthwhile event for the Board to attend and support as the thousands of dollars raised will support the Abby PD’s goal to purchase kevlar vests for their police dogs and a simulator which will enable a safer Abbotsford community,” says FVREB member and volunteer Dale Kler.
In 2017, funds raised from the event contributed towards the purchase of a military grade drone to support the Abby PD’s efforts and participation in public events.
This year, the APF set a goal of raising $75,000 to help the Abby PD purchase a simulator to plan for emergency situations, such as a domestic dispute in a home, an active shooter in a school or a hostage taking scenario. As well, the funds raised will assist the police department in buying protective kevlar vests for their police dogs. Through ticket sales, silent and live auction purchases, sponsorships and donations, the APF was able to raise 75 per cent of the target of $75,000 at the “Crime is Toast” breakfast.
“Thanks again for your support of the Abbotsford Police Foundation. Every dollar goes a long way to helping the Abby PD achieve their goal of making the City of Abbotsford the Safest City in BC,” says Sandy Blue, Vice President, Abbotsford Police Foundation.
The APF is a not-for-profit organization established in 2005 that funds community programs which are not covered by the operating budget of the Abby PD. The APF cannot directly receive financial contributions, however the organization is a trusted, practical way to support the work of the Abby PD’s officers in their efforts to enhance public safety.
The annual “Crime is Toast” breakfast attracts over 300 representatives from the local safety community, religious groups, businesses, youth groups, education providers, the Fraser Health authority and other groups.
