On Thursday July 20, FVREB had the pleasure of hosting an audience with the Honourable Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing for BC. The meeting, spearheaded by the Board’s Stakeholder and Government Relations Committee, was exclusive to members and invited guests, affording access to the highest levels of housing policy and decision-making in the province.
The Minister addressed a broad range of topics including why he believes increased density won’t necessarily result in further skyrocketing of land values; how single family homes aren’t in jeopardy with the new reforms; the need to harmonize the permitting and approvals processes across jurisdictions; and why he’s against targeting disused agricultural land for housing.
In thanking Minister Kahlon, Tore Jacobsen, Chair of the Stakeholder and Government Relations Committee remarked on his openness and accessibility adding, “We hope it’s the start of a lasting relationship to work side by side with [the Minister] and all our municipal and provincial partners on behalf of the public good.”
