Feed the Hospital Workers and Feed the City: A #RealtorsWhoInspire Story

Charity is nothing new for Winston Conyers of Sotheby’s International Realty. His long list of philanthropic endeavours includes helping at-risk youth, rescuing animals, and protecting children worldwide from the cruel and fatal consequences of polio. When the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, Winston, together with his wife Karen, rolled up their sleeves and started responding to the needs of the White Rock community. This time around, it was charitable feeding.

It started as giving 75 lunches every Friday to hospitals in the White Rock area. Now, it has expanded to include homeless people.  “We need to use kindness in the things we do. Always,” Winston said. His inspiration? Langar. In Sikhism, langar is a community kitchen where the idea of giving and service to the community is emphasized by providing free meals to anyone and everyone.

Winston and Karen have teamed up with Mike Thind of Red Rose Restaurant, the White Rock Rotary Club, and the City of White Rock. “I wanted to bring the wonderful program to the community. A few hot meals for anyone in need,” he said.

Now, this is another reason why we should all look forward to Fridays!

As COVID-19 pandemic sweeps across the world, we are left to lean into our values and make the right choices. REALTORS® are following safety measures to halt the spread of the virus and manage the condition of infected individuals. Still, we see our members show their resiliency, creativity, passion, and sense of community. To highlight these, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board has launched the #RealtorsWhoInspire campaign. We will be sharing stories during this pandemic from our Realtors.

We encourage you to share hope with our community. Send us a Facebook DM or email us at communications@fvreb.bc.ca. In this time of physical distancing, it is a safe and positive way to connect.

Stay safe and be kind!
