Misleading and false advertising has recently landed four BC REALTORS® in hot water with the real estate regulator. The BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) has penalized the four licensees thousands of dollars for violating advertising rules.
To ensure you don’t run afoul with the regulator, watch this video from FVREB Director of Professional Standards, Barbara Lohmann.
In addition to the false or misleading listings and credentials mentioned in Barb’s video, the BCFSA has published other common advertising infractions you will want to avoid, among them:
- Advertising as an unregistered team,
- Publication of MLS® listing without owner’s consent; and
- Failing to include a licensee or brokerage name in an advertisement.
You can read more about the above case studies here and more about the most recent infractions here.
A BCFSA Advertising Checklist can be found here.
