The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board’s Professional Standards department has a new face on the team. But for many long-term members his face is not new. Paul Cowhig is actually a familiar presence in the Fraser Valley. He got his Realtor’s license here back in 1981 and served as the Board’s President in 2001.
In 2013 Paul got his broker’s license and managed an office in Chilliwack before moving to work with a team out of RE/MAX of Duncan on Vancouver Island. More recently he spent two and half years as the Professional Standards Coordinator at the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board (OMREB) before joining the team at the FVREB.
Paul’s job title is Professional Standards Advisor and he’ll be working with the supervision of Dennis Wilson, who will be transferring some workload to Paul to handle complaints intake and education.
Paul says his approach to professional standards at Okanagan Mainline was to work toward spending one third of his time handling complaint issues and two thirds of his time on what he calls “preventive medicine” — giving presentations and writing articles to educate Realtors about the issues around business practices.
He expects that the volume of calls and complaints will be much higher here than in the smaller OMREB, but he is ready for the challenge. NewsReal will be covering more about Paul’s activities at the Board in the coming months.
Nice to have you back Paul!
