On May 7, members of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board gathered at Northview Golf and Country Club for a long-standing tradition; an evening dedicated to recognizing the contributions of Past Chairs and Past Presidents, while officially welcoming outgoing Chair Tore Jacobsen into their ranks. The event served as both a celebration and a reflection on the commitment these leaders have made to the Board and the profession over the years.
Behind every term as Chair is a significant and often unseen investment of time. Across Canada, Board Chairs typically dedicate hundreds of volunteer hours each year, often more than 300, attending meetings, representing members at events, guiding strategic decisions, and responding to emerging issues. These responsibilities come in addition to their professional and personal commitments, underscoring the level of dedication required to serve in the role.
The evening paid tribute not only to Tore Jacobsen, but to all those who have served before him—leaders who have given their time, energy, and expertise to advance the profession and support their peers. From industry events and Board functions to critical governance discussions, their contributions have helped shape the organization and strengthen its impact across the Fraser Valley.
For Tore, the evening marked the culmination of a year defined by thoughtful leadership and authenticity. His tenure as Chair reflected a deep commitment to openness, connection, and service to members. As emcee John Barbisan noted, Tore’s leadership has left a lasting mark on this Board and on everyone who’s had the privilege to work alongside him. His openness, strength, and genuine care for others have set a standard that will carry forward well beyond his time as Chair.
As the newest member of this distinguished group, Tore joins a legacy built on service and stewardship. The Past Chairs and Presidents Dinner remains a powerful reminder of the collective leadership that continues to guide the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board forward—year after year.
