REALTORS® of BC – September Update

Our profession is in a time of upheaval and change.  Whether it’s the REALTORS® of BC proposal that you’ll vote on, December 6, or the sweeping changes that our provincial government is making, real estate in BC will look different at the end of 2016 than it did at the beginning.

How we respond to this change over the next few months will shape how real estate is structured and practiced in BC for years.

That’s why your board of directors recommends the amalgamation of six BC Boards plus BCREA to form one new organization, REALTORS® of BC.  We urge you to vote yes on December 6.

Why this matters to you

  • Our profession is under attack and change is happening. Now is our time to lead it.
  • We need to strengthen our public perception.
  • We need to enhance our professional standards.
  • We need to make decisions faster.
  • We need a modern, efficient and united structure that supports REALTORS® and helps our profession thrive for generations.
  • The future is in your hands. Voting yes is a vote for a better future for all Realtors and consumers in BC.

What’s new?

  • Six real estate boards and BCREA are participating and taking this to a member vote.
  • BC Northern Real Estate Board, Fraser Valley Real Estate Board, Kamloops And District Real Estate Association, Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board, South Okanagan Real Estate Board, Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, and the BC Real Estate Association.
  • Five boards have decided to withdraw from the process, which means their members will not be able to vote (Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board, Kootenay Real Estate Board, Powell River and Sunshine Coast Real Estate Board, Vancouver Island Real Estate Board and Victoria Real Estate Board).
  • REALTORS® of BC business case revised based on six boards and BCREA:
  • $9.3 million in duplicated costs. After fee harmonization, the six boards and BCREA representing 86% of REALTORS® in BC would have $6.3 million annually that could be reinvested into the services that members value most.
  • The Board of Directors of REALTORS® of BC has been reduced from 12 to 9 directors:
    • Six REALTOR® directors and three public directors.
    • Two of the REALTOR® directors and one public director must be selected from outside the Metro Vancouver area (which includes  Abbotsford and Mission).
