Fraser Valley Real Estate Board welcomes new Director of Professional Standards

The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board welcomes Michael Carter, M.B.A. LL.B to the team as Director, Professional Standards.

Joining the team on April 19, 2022, Michael leads the Professional Standards team, which includes: Michelle Sparrow, Government Relations Lead and Conduct Advisor; Aaron Bockner, Policy Lead and Privacy Officer and Alana Martens, Arbitration & Conduct Lead.

Michael was admitted to the Bar in 2002 and as an active member of the Law Society of BC, he practices as a sole practitioner as MDC Law Corporation.

From 2017 to 2021, Michael served as Director, Compliance & Risk Management with the Transportation Investment Corporation (under the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure) and then with BC Infrastructure Benefits Inc. (under the Ministry of Finance). From 2006 to 2015, he served in various compliance roles with WorkSafe BC overseeing such areas as Engineering, Compliance, and Legal Services.

Michael grew up next to his grandparent’s farm near Bowmanville, Ontario and attributes his strong work ethic to his early experiences on the farm. At the age of 13, his grandfather bought him a sow and piglets at an auction and caring for the animals became his daily chore. That sense of duty and responsibility became a guiding principle throughout his life.

Regarding his vision for the team, Michael says, “Having just turned the corner on the 100th anniversary of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board, we have a strong foundation to build on – and there’s never been a time of greater change and regulation in the industry than now.” He adds, “I view this as a real opportunity and I’m looking forward to supporting a team who all bring exceptional skills and experience to serve the members’ interests well.”

One of Michael’s bucket list items is to grow a garden with his grandchild, of which he says, “But the grandchild has to come first!”

Welcome to the team, Michael!
