Delta has new requirements in 2016 for legalizing a secondary suite

To be eligible to sign a Secondary Suite Statutory Declaration:

  • the owner of the property must live on the property and must provide proof
  • the suite must be occupied by family members only
  • the owner must agree to authorize an inspection of the suite by a bylaw inspector

As well, all properties with a secondary suite will be receiving a water metre installed at Delta’s cost. Once the metre is installed, the property will be charged based on water consumption.

After June 30, 2016, suites built before July 2010 will no longer be eligible for an application under the existing Secondary Suite Program. All applications to install or legalize an existing suite after June 30, 2016 will require a building permit issued through the Community Planning & Development department.
